Florence Debeugny
Deterioration
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 18th, 4 to 7 p.m.
Deterioration is the continuation of the work Florence Debeugny started
two years ago when, in collaboration with a soundscape composer, they presented
At the Edge of Wilderness. The installation displayed images of some of the
ghost towns in British Columbia, using five projectors and a soundtrack. Subsequently,
in the industrial areas of the Vancouver region, Florence Debeugny continued
to capture images of the passage of time. Her photography reveals a variety
of [detail]ls and textures, particularly upon buildings and materials. During her
formative years in Europe, she had always been attracted to the remains of the
past. Often feeling as an archæologist, she finds extreme beauty in these
old buildings and the discarded artefacts of former generations.
